Review & Giveaway for Howard B. Wigglebottom and the Monkey on His back. A Tale about Telling the Truth.

There have been some issues in my home recently with the children and telling the truth when they are questioned about an activity or behavior that they have been involved with.

As a result when I was provided the chance to review one of the books in the Howard B.Wigglebottom series by the The We Do Listen Non Profit Foundation  I was thrilled. The book that I received was
Howard B. Wigglebottom and the Monkey on His back. A Tale about Telling the Truth.

I just received the book in the mail today and gave it to the 2 girls age 5&6 to read together. I listened as they both took turns reading alternate pages and then conducted a short interview with them on the book.

Here is what they had to say:
1.      Question 1: What did you girls think of the book?
a.      5 Year Old Answer: It was AWESOME!
b.      6 Year old Answer: It was greater than the park, but not greater than an amusement park.

2.      Question 2: What did you girls learn from reading the book?
a.      5 Year old Answers: At the beginning he was telling lies and by the end he told the truth. Howard the Bunny was making the wrong choices.
b.      6 Year old Answers: You shouldn’t lie because no one will believe you when you are telling the truth. Always tell the truth even if you are scared to.

My thoughts:
Overall, I feel that this was a good book for this age group. It was easy for them to read with no assistance on the words on my part. In addition, they understood completely the message of the book and therefore that was worth it for me. It was a great conversation starter for a discussion on lying and it was good for them to read a book and understand on their own level the effects of lying and that telling the truth was always the best choice. I will be purchasing other books in the future on from this series because the lessons learned and explained at their level is definitely worth the money!
