Book Review for: Enlightenment for Nitwits: The Complete Guide to 2012 & Beyond!

Enlightenment

PhotobucketAuthor: Shepherd Hoodwin

I have to say that I wasn’t sure if I was going on like the book or what to expect as there is a star on the front cover as a recommendation from “recommendation from “God, the Creator of the Universe” and there was a letter from Jesus in the book, which I did raise an eyebrow at.

But I decided to be open minded and I was pleasantly surprised as this was probably one of the most interesting and entertaining books that I have read in a long time. I almost read the book in one sitting as once you start you can’t put it down. I quickly realized that this is definitely not a book is not for those that are easy offended or can’t take a joke

Story Land in New Hampshire

Story Land is a theme park located in Glen, New Hampshire. It has become a family tradition to take the kids to Story Land the week before the start of the school year.  It is the best time to go as there the park is not as busy and limited wait time to get on the rides.

Story Land is for children ages 2 to 12. There are plenty of free parking spaces that in short walking distance to the and from the park entrance and exit. The park also offers stroller rentals which are convenient and reasonable priced for those parents with small children that may get tired as there is a lot of walking up and down hills at Story Land. Or you can opt to take the train that runs through Story Land to get you where you need to be.

There is a special section for “Little Dreamers” for the younger kids and there are age appropriate rides for them. There are also a lot of food selections to choose from American to Mexican and many snack shops throughout the park. My favorite park food is the popcorn and the fried dough. There is even a Slushy Station where there are at minimum 9 flavors to choose from.

Kids Review of Story Land
  1. Girl, age 5 – It was good! Going on the Polar coaster and spending time with my mom
  2. Boy, Age 8 – Awesome! Best part was spending time with everyone
  3. Girl, Age 7 – Awesome! My favorite part was going on the Polar Coaster

5 Financial Tips for Women that Can Help Lead to a Better Financial Outlook

Though financial strategy and planning isn’t limited to one specific gender, women have a disadvantage when it comes to a good financial standing simply by making only about ¾ of what a male counterpart would and by often getting less assets in a divorce but more of the children. That is why being smart about your financial means as a woman is more important than ever as women all over the world stand on their own two feet rather than be “supported” by men. To help make financial strategy and planning a real possibility, we’ve put together 5 financial tips for women to get you on the right track.

1. Educate Yourself – Nothing is better than educating yourself about a difficult problem when you are faced with one. Learn about financial issues such as money management and investing to make sure your overall financial strategy and planning benefits you rather than hinders you.

2. Set Financial Goals – There is nothing more productive and inspiring than setting goals to reach for and by setting financial goals for yourself you are allowing yourself to have a clear picture of your future in mind to constantly reach for. Decide where you want to be financially in 5 years, 10 years, etc and reach for those goals.

Book Review: Creative Genius: Tips to Unleash Yours

Author: Alka Dalal
Genre: Self-Help
Pages: 85
Purchase: Amazon & Barnes and Noble

Creative Genius is about that discusses the areas in our lives that we need to realize and understand that will help us unlock our creative genius.
The first chapter of this book is a strong start and it is something that I truly believe in – Being a Lifelong Learner.

Similar to Alka I have a wide age range of friends because I truly believe that that we can all learn just as much from the Youth of this country as we can from a person in their eighties or nineties. All we have to do is take the time to listen to what they have to say.

Alka also points out that Education is a part of lifelong learning and I am proud to say that I am enrolled in school to obtain my MBA because I am passionate about learning and feel that it does open doors.

Key Quote: “The day we stop learning is the day we stop growing and expanding our minds.”

Which leads me to the next chapter of this book that I love and it discusses how being passionate can assist with creativity.  This chapter for me hit home because the first thing that came to mind was my blog. I had always been passionate about writing and reading books as a kid. I would write short stories and create my own books (artwork included) and share them with my family.

Country Bob’s All Purpose Sauce Review

Product: Country Bob’s All Purpose Sauce
Company: The Orginal Country Bob’s
Prices: $13.98 Half Case, $27.99 Case
Size: 13 oz

Summary:
My Family and I are always looking for new sauces to try when grilling and I was excited about the chance the try the Country Bob’s All Purpose Sauce.  We used the below recipe and was provided in the brochure that came with the sauce and I tweaked it a little bit based on how I usually season my chicken.

The Country Bob’s Chicken Wings that I cooked were a hit with the whole entire family! The taste was wonderful and the wings were juicy and had that great grill taste.

I am now interested in purchasing other products from County Bob’s Including their Seasoning Salt and Barbeque Sauce. I feel this is a great product and adds kick to any dish that you are preparing whether it is beef, pork, poultry or seafood.

Country Bob’s website also provides recipes for all your dishes: Entrees, Soups & Stews, Appetizers, Side Dishes and Sauces and Dressings. Click Here

Recipe:
5 pounds chicken wings
4 cups of flour (didn’t use flour)
¼ cup granulated garlic
4 tsp County’s Bob Seasoning Salt ( I used Lawry’s Seasoned Salt)
¼ tsp. red pepper ( didn’t use)
Oil for deep frying (grilled)
½ cup of Country Bob’s all Purpose Sauce ( I used as much as I could to coat fully)

Book Review: A Simple Book of Financial Wisdom

Title: A Simple Book of Financial Wisdom: Teach Yourself (and Your Kids) How to Live Wealthy with Little Money (Paperback)
Author: Danny Kofke
Pages: 94
Price (Amazon): $12.00
Kindle Price (Amazon): $4.99

Summary:

I could appreciate this book because as a single parent I had to learn how to live on less income once I was divorced. It was a trial and error situation and with a lot of bumps and bruises along the way, but eventually I figured it out and was able to even save some money each paycheck. I wish I would have known about this book a 3 years ago because it would have really helped me figure out the financial aspect of my life after my divorce and would have saved me a lot of stress and headache of figuring it all out on my own.

This is such a great financial book for anyone that is at any stage in their financial life. The one thing that I love about this book is that Danny puts everything into perspective throughout the entire book. There is a section of celebrities that have found themselves in serious financial disarray which goes to show that no matter, age, sex, race, creed, rich or middle class can find themselves in financial trouble if you live beyond your means.

One suggestion that Danny makes is using a cash only spending plan. It is figuring out what you need on a weekly basis for spending money and pull that amount out on a set day of the week. I tried this and I would agree that it was hard to do the first week or two because I felt that someone was always coming up that would put me over my weekly allowance (i.e. unplanned dinner with the girls). I knew that if I went out then I would need to cut back on some other expenses during the week so as not to go over my allotted spending for the week. It was a tough decision and I decided not to go to dinner that week with the girls and asked for rain check.

One of my favorite statements in this book is “People get into financial trouble when they don’t know how they’re spending their money.” This is so true and Danny suggests that for one month we keep track of our spending. Carrying a pen and paper with us at all times and writing down any and everything we spend money on.

Let me just say this is easier said than done. I am trying to do this task now and it is amazing how much money I spend and don’t even realize it because I am using my debit card and not cash. I think most of us feel that “it’s only $5 a day for lunch” but if you stop and think about what that amount is over a year it may make you think twice about buying lunch every day and save money by bringing lunch.

Danny also provides a section on how to save money for an emergency fund and the importance of needing one. Also he provides information on getting out of debt, investing, saving for college and provides resources for additional books for planning for a secure and safe financial situation. I thought it was great that he list resources for  children’s books as well to assist with teaching children the value of money and spending.

This book provides basic financial information but is presented in a way that everyone can understand and adapt to if you just take the time to follow the instructions in the book.  There are a lot of things that I have learned and have started to incorporate into my life to hopefully obtain more financial success.

Overall Rating: FFGGG

A Creed To Live By

** Reprinted with Permission from Nancye Sims**

Do not undermine your worth by
Comparing yourself with others.
It is because we are different
That each of us is special.

Do not set your goals by what
Other people deem important.
Only you know what is best for you.

Do not take for granted the things
Closest to your heart.
Cling to them as you would your life,
for without them, life is meaningless.

Do not let your life slip through your fingers
By living in the past nor for the future.
By living your life one day at a time,
You live all the days of your life.

Do not give up when you
Still have something to give.
Nothing is really over until the
Moment you stop trying.
It is a fragile thread that
Binds us to each other.

Do not be afraid to encounter risks.
It is by taking chances
That we learn how to be brave.

Do not shut love out of your life by
Saying it is impossible to find.
The quickest way to receive
Love is to give love;
The fastest way to lose love
Is too hold it too tightly;
In addition, the best way to keep
Love is to give it wings.

Do not dismiss your dreams.
To be without dreams
Is to be without hope;
To be without hope
Is to be without purpose.

Do not run through life
So fast that you forget
Not only where you have been,
But also where you are going.
Life is not a race,
But a journey to be savored
Each step of the way.

~ Nancye Sims

But there's nothing easy or routine about Captain Jack Baker—he's a rather forgetful spirit and somewhat mischievous. And even though he's intrigued by the US Government's latest attempt to remove him from the only place he can ever remember being... he has no intentions of going anywhere.

Plans to exorcise Jack are quickly sidelined when Izzy discovers a portal into the past inside her dreams and sets out to change his fate. Trouble is...when she gets back there, she can't remember anything but her name. She still sees ghosts, but is far less accepting of her gift. And, to make matters worse, a demonic force pretending to be the forgetful heroine's sister has her own plans—to steal Izzy's soul    Purchase Here
