Book Review: Creative Genius: Tips to Unleash Yours

Author: Alka Dalal
Genre: Self-Help
Pages: 85
Purchase: Amazon & Barnes and Noble

Creative Genius is about that discusses the areas in our lives that we need to realize and understand that will help us unlock our creative genius.
The first chapter of this book is a strong start and it is something that I truly believe in – Being a Lifelong Learner.

Similar to Alka I have a wide age range of friends because I truly believe that that we can all learn just as much from the Youth of this country as we can from a person in their eighties or nineties. All we have to do is take the time to listen to what they have to say.

Alka also points out that Education is a part of lifelong learning and I am proud to say that I am enrolled in school to obtain my MBA because I am passionate about learning and feel that it does open doors.

Key Quote: “The day we stop learning is the day we stop growing and expanding our minds.”

Which leads me to the next chapter of this book that I love and it discusses how being passionate can assist with creativity.  This chapter for me hit home because the first thing that came to mind was my blog. I had always been passionate about writing and reading books as a kid. I would write short stories and create my own books (artwork included) and share them with my family.

A few years ago I wanted to go back to my writing but wanted it to mean something so I started my blog with the focus of being inspirational and encouraging. I also recently started incorporating book reviews into my site so I have the joy of both writing and reading and it is very fulfilling.

Key Quote: “Whatever you are doing if you approach it with a passion, you will always find deep satisfaction.”
Another great chapter in this book is being spiritual.  I can say that being spiritual has helped me with all the ups and downs of life and was the one main thing that was my rock and foundation when I was going through my divorce.

Alka discusses the importance of finding true spirituality and connecting with our inner self and the importance of being truthful. Truthful in the sense of being honest with oneself and having honest internal conversation in which we really stop and think about how we are hurting others, or ourselves whether knowingly or unknowing.  Truly thought provoking question of whether we take the time to stop and think and answer ourselves honestly and openly regardless of the situation at hand.

Key Quote: “Spirituality isn’t only a matter of finding occasional moments of peace and harmony. It also means taking a meaningful approach to life that needs to be practiced every day.”

What I truly love about this book is no matter what Alka is exploring she makes every chapter personal by sharing a story about herself. This helps the reader connect with her and also helps to reinforce each point. I also love the fact that she incorporates a quote in the beginning of each chapter. As anyone that is a fan of my blog knows, I enjoy powerful and encouraging quotes that drive a message home, so I can truly appreciate this aspect of her book.

Overall, a great self-help guide for unlocking your creative genius. A quick and easy read and highly recommended!
