Martin Luther King Jr. Was an influential and inspirational
African American. He fought and sought for equality not just for African
Americans but for all races and creed. The sacrifices he made of himself and
his family is inspirational and to be commended. He was truly a man of God,
purpose and focus.
No matter what your religion, race, color or creed, Martin
Luther King Jr, is truly a man of inspiration and did what he felt was
necessary to obtain equally for all.

Martin Luther King, Jr. was an African-American clergyman who
advocated social change through non-violent means. A powerful speaker and a man
of great spiritual strength, he shaped the American civil rights movement of
the 1950s and 1960s. King was pastor of the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in
Montgomery, Alabama from 1954-59. There he led blacks in the Montgomery bus
boycott of 1955-56.
The
proposal to make his birthday one of 10 national holidays was controversial,
according to news accounts at the time. Some thought he didn’t deserve the
honor. Others thought the idea was a guilt offering for slavery. Still others
thought the day should commemorate civil rights generally. But as President
Ronald Reagan said in proclaiming the first Martin Luther King Jr. Day, “Dr.
King’s was truly a prophetic voice that reached out over the chasms of
hostility, prejudice, ignorance and fear to touch the conscience of America.
