My Top 15 Ideas to Keep Your Child(ren) Busy & To Keep YOU Sane during Snow days

Are you tired of snow days? I know I am? So I put together a list of some things you can do to keep the kids busy and stay sane during these snow days.

BTW: this is snow day #5 and i think we got #6 coming tomorrow. I am OVER the snow!

If you have any other ideas, please feel free to share. We all need to help each other out during these snow days !!

  1. Wii - I love Wii, so we can have dance parties, we can have tournament games and then of course when I need to actually get work done she can play the educational games I brought her.
  2. Puzzles -  I went out and bought a ton of puzzles. Not the 30 piece ones for kids but the 250 and 500 pieces. We can do these together. She loves doing the outside frame, so I let her do that by herself and then I start to work on the inside pieces. Its Fun and takes up a good amount of time.
  3. Build an indoor fort -   Just like YOU used to, with couch cushions and blankets. I even had some card board boxes that I hadn’t thrown out yet that we used.
  4. Good ole fashion Dance Party- Blast some music, any music and have a dance party! Even make it a contest if there are enough of you.  Take turns with the kids picking favorite songs!
  5. SLEEEEEP! -  When your kids take naps, take one too! Even if you are working from home. Just take a quick rest on the couch. You are going to need all the energy you have to finish out the night strong.
  6. Cleaning – Forget About it!!!  No use in stressing yourself out trying to continuously clean up behind your kid(s). Just leave it till the weekend or the snow day(s) are over.
  7. Bake - Bake cookies, rice Krispy treats or brownies. A good time to start teaching your kids basics of baking. Since there is no rush to get things done, you can be patient with them understand the basics of cooking and they will be rewarded after with a treat they made.
  8. Dress up- Grab some old clothes throw them down in a pile and just have fun.
  9. Activity Book My favorite is the big preschool activity book. Big Workbooks promote comprehensive learning from preschool through sixth grade. I usually order mine on Amazon.com. There are hundreds of activities they can do to keep them occupied, from hidden pictures, drawing, coloring, counting, etc. Again when I need to work I sit her down next to me and she thinks she “working like mommy”
  10. Indoor snowman. You can cotton balls and some old fabrics, felt, whatever art supplies you have on hand in the house. Don’t forget to make the snowflakes, by using coffee filters or construction paper.
  11. Hot Chocolate - Either the old fashion way with cocoa powder or “contemporary” with the    pouches. Either way and make sure you don’t skip the whipped cream and marshmallows.
  12. Valentine’s Day Cards– Get an early start with filling out Valentine’s Day Cards
